0. Introductions

A while ago, me and my 10-years old son fell in love with the idea of building robots and implementing some electronics tricks to amuse ourselves and amaze others. Of course, our ambitions did not reach the level of constructing smart and autonomous Boston Dynamics-like beasts. We would like to create something small and friendly which will be wandering around our house and play soccer with our cat.

First, our imagination painted some noble and intelligent robot like the famous R2D2.

R2D2 - the most famous robot ever

But once we started learning the electronics community, modules available to buy, and, first of all, once we measured the height of the door-steps in our house, the design of the robot skewed to slightly more practical form-factor. The current version looks like this:

The robot we actually built

In the next posts, we will provide a step by step instructions on how to build a robot using standard components and applying basic electronic and programming skills.

This blog is a sister-blog of the Ukrainian version where all our adventures are explained with many details, with some educational injections and technical background. English version is planned to be slightly shortened and oriented toward more experienced readers. But anyway, we are happy to answer any questions and provide any assistance.

All the source code is stored at GitHub and commented in English, so it is expected to be easily understandable by everyone.

Following our blog we hope you will build a nice working robot, still, you will have a lot of flexibility to do something differently and hopefully, you will avoid all the mistakes we made on the way.

Let's move forward! May the Force be with you.
